Domino’s is giving customers a chance to claim a free pizza, but a twist turns the giveaway into a fast-food showdown.
Instead of simply downloading an app or entering a sweepstakes, customers must first buy a meal from a competing chain.
The promotion, tied to the launch of the new “Domino” personal Detroit-style pizza, asks customers to compare Domino’s newest creation with some of the most recognizable individual meals in American fast food.
With up to $1 million worth of free pizzas available, the company is putting its newest menu item directly into consumers’ hands and asking a simple question: Is the Domino worthy?
To get the free pizza, customers have to bring proof of purchase from one of five rival restaurants. The catch is part of a bigger strategy to position the new pizza as a meal designed for people who usually have to compromise when ordering food.
What You Have to Buy To Get the Free Pizza
The promotion has a short list of qualifying meals, and the free pizzas will not last forever.
Customers must purchase one specific menu item from one of five restaurant chains: the Big Mac from McDonald’s, the Whopper from Burger King, the Crunchwrap Supreme from Taco Bell, the Chicken Sandwich from Chick-fil-A, or a burrito from Chipotle.
After buying one of those items, customers can upload proof of purchase through IsTheDominoWorthy.com. Domino’s will then email a code to claim a free Domino’s pizza. The campaign says a receipt, photo, or screenshot of the purchase may qualify.
The offer includes 105,375 individual pizzas and is available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Domino’s announced the promotion alongside the August 31 launch of the new pizza.

A Pizza Designed Around the Domino’s Logo
The new menu item is built to look as distinctive as the brand behind it.
The Domino is more than a smaller pizza. The personal Detroit-style pizza is shaped like Domino’s famous logo and comes cut into two slices. It is baked in a rectangular pan with buttery-flavored dough, a Parmesan-finished crust, and garlic seasoning.
Each pizza includes two layers of cheese, a customer’s choice of sauce, and up to three toppings. Domino’s describes it as the company’s first Detroit-style pizza.
Domino’s stated that “the Domino” ranked among the best-tasting products in its history. The company clarified that independent consumer testing determined this ranking, yielding some of the highest taste scores the brand has ever recorded.

The Problem Domino’s Says It Is Solving
The idea behind the Domino comes from a familiar pizza argument: everyone wants something different.
Traditional pizza orders often require groups to agree on toppings, which can leave someone settling for a choice they did not really want. Domino’s says the new pizza is designed around a different idea: everyone gets their own meal.
“It solves a problem traditional pizza never could: everyone gets the toppings they love, without having to compromise,” said Kate Trumbull, Domino’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer.
“We saw an opportunity to reinvent pizza from the crust up, and the result is the Domino: a Detroit style pizza built for one person, made exactly how they want it.”

A company spokesperson also described the Domino as filling a gap in Domino’s menu, saying traditional pizza can fall short when people at the same table want different toppings. The new product is meant to remove that disagreement entirely.
Why Domino’s Chose Burgers, Tacos, Chicken and Burritos
The campaign is not challenging other pizza brands. It is trying to compete with everyday individual meals.
The five restaurants included in the promotion are not pizza competitors. Instead, they represent some of the most recognizable single-person meals in fast food.
“Like a Big Mac or Whopper, the Domino is made for one, no sharing involved,” Domino’s said in promotional materials.
That comparison reveals the company’s goal. Domino’s wants customers to think of the Domino in the same category as a Big Mac, Whopper, Crunchwrap Supreme, Chicken Sandwich, or Chipotle burrito: a complete meal chosen for one person.
The broader campaign slogan, “Pizza Can’t. The Domino Can,” reinforces that message. Rather than asking customers to compare it with Pizza Hut or Papa John’s, Domino’s is trying to change the way people think about ordering pizza.
Domino’s Has a History of Using Competitors as Bait

The company’s latest promotion builds on a history of turning competitors into marketing opportunities.
In 2019, Domino’s launched its Points for Pies promotion, which allowed customers to earn loyalty points by scanning any pizza through the Domino’s app, including pizzas from competitors or homemade versions.
That campaign encouraged customers to interact with Domino’s rewards program regardless of where their pizza came from.
The new promotion takes a more direct approach. Customers must purchase from five named competitors before receiving their free Domino’s pizza. Other fast food companies have used similar strategies, including Burger King’s 2018 promotion that offered a one-cent Whopper through its app when customers were near a McDonald’s location.
Domino’s version puts the comparison itself at the center of the campaign.

The promotional window for the Domino’s campaign runs from August 31, 2026, through September 30, 2026, and is limited to 105,375 free pizzas or until the campaign concludes at 11:59 PM ET.
Participants must submit proof of purchase for a qualifying rival meal to receive a redemption code valid for digital orders. You can review the official terms at IsTheDominoWorthy.com.
Domino’s is asking consumers to place a Big Mac, Whopper, Crunchwrap, chicken sandwich, or burrito beside its new logo-shaped pizza and decide for themselves. The promotion doesn’t decide whether Domino’s deserves a spot among America’s favorite individual meals.
That decision belongs to the people taking the first bite.
When everyone wants different toppings, would you rather order a personal pizza for yourself, or is sharing one big pie still part of the fun?
