A former Disney singer is revisiting an uncomfortable chapter from her teenage years, claiming Miley Cyrus repeatedly mocked her appearance and left her nasty voicemails with her friend Mandy Jiroux.
Jordan Pruitt made the allegations in a social-media comment that resurfaced this week after she responded to a video discussing an old clip of Miley Cyrus and Mandy. Pruitt wrote that this was how Cyrus allegedly treated people “back in the day,” including her, before a commenter asked her to explain what happened.
Her response was far more specific. Pruitt alleged that Cyrus would call her and leave voicemails with Jiroux, making fun of her and telling her she needed a nose job, new teeth, and a choreographer. Pruitt described Cyrus as “relentless,” portraying the encounters as repeated incidents rather than one teenage disagreement.
Cyrus has not publicly responded to Pruitt’s allegations, and no independent evidence establishes that the alleged calls occurred.
Pruitt Was Part of the Same Young-Hollywood World
Pruitt wasn’t an outsider looking in at Disney’s biggest stars, she was a young performer trying to build a career in the same industry.
She signed with Hollywood Records as a teenager and became known for songs including “Outside Looking In” and “Jump to the Rhythm.” Her music was featured in Disney-related projects, and she toured with performers including the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and the Cheetah Girls.
Her 2008 album Permission to Fly included “Boyfriend,” a song whose lyrics center on a girl confronting another woman whom she believes is trying to take her boyfriend. The song has since become part of the online discussion surrounding Pruitt’s relationship with Cyrus, although the circumstances behind the song have never been definitively established.
Pruitt later competed on The Voice in 2012 before eventually stepping away from music in 2017.

The Nick Jonas Connection Keeps Coming Up
Another piece of Disney-era history has fueled speculation about why Pruitt and Cyrus may have clashed.
Pruitt has previously connected her 2008 song “Boyfriend” to tensions involving Cyrus. Cyrus dated Nick Jonas from 2006 to 2007, and rumors from that period also linked Jonas romantically with Pruitt.
However, the online theory that jealousy over Jonas caused the alleged bullying remains unproven. Pruitt’s current allegations do not establish that a romantic rivalry was the reason Cyrus allegedly targeted her.
The song is clearly about a girl confronting someone she believes is pursuing her boyfriend, but that doesn’t prove who inspired it.
Pruitt’s Career Wasn’t Always Easy
The resurfaced allegations also come after Pruitt spent years publicly discussing difficult experiences as a young entertainer.
In 2019, Pruitt filed a lawsuit against former manager Keith Thomas, Hollywood Records and Disney, alleging that Thomas sexually abused her beginning when she was 14. She also accused the companies of failing to protect her and argued that the entertainment industry had placed financial interests ahead of the welfare of young performers. Those were separate allegations from her claims about Cyrus.
That history provides important context for why Pruitt has continued discussing her teenage years in entertainment. She has described an environment where she worked professionally while still very young and was surrounded by adults with significant influence over her career. Her experience is therefore more complicated than a simple celebrity feud.
Social Media Has Turned an Old Story Into New News
For now, Pruitt’s allegations remain allegations. Cyrus has not publicly addressed the claims, and no independent confirmation exists of the alleged voicemails or comments about Pruitt’s appearance.
That leaves an important distinction between what is documented and what is being remembered. Pruitt has clearly made the accusation, but readers should not treat her account as a fact without a response or corroborating evidence.
Still, the story has reopened a fascinating question about the young stars who grew up under the Disney spotlight. They were teenagers when millions of people watched them, but the consequences of those teenage relationships can still be discussed nearly 20 years later.
