By Sunday afternoon, that possibility was gone. The two-day sequence that followed moved from initial reassurance to full cancellation, with several details still publicly unresolved.
What the Convention Hall Witnessed
Lambert’s Saturday appearance was already underway when a routine convention afternoon abruptly became a medical emergency.
Steel City Con runs across three days each August, and Lambert had been scheduled to appear Friday through Sunday for autographs, photo opportunities, and a panel discussion. Fans had already been moving through the Saturday program when the collapse occurred inside the convention hall.
The eyewitness account came through TMZ, which reported that Lambert “suddenly collapsed” before being taken away by ambulance to a local hospital. Lambert’s representative later spoke about the episode, but Lambert himself did not issue a public statement as the first details began circulating.

By Saturday evening, the outlook had shifted toward a Sunday return, with Lambert’s representative saying he was “perfectly OK” and resting at his hotel.
The convention indicated that Lambert would return Sunday for more autographs and his delayed photo op. His representative attributed the episode to a drop in blood sugar caused by not eating much that day and not getting enough sleep the night before, an explanation that suggested the interruption might be brief.
Organizers described the episode differently, saying: “Christopher was feeling a little overheated and dehydrated. He had to sit down, but he is doing great today.” The representative cited blood sugar and sleep, while organizers mentioned heat and dehydration.
Whether those were parallel accounts of the same episode or separate contributing factors remained unresolved, and neither account came with a hospital statement or formal medical assessment.
Sunday’s Reversal
Sunday began with Lambert still on the schedule… until it changed again and the comeback disappeared entirely.
The initial return plan had already been scaled back. Lambert was expected back for autographs and his delayed photo op, but to skip his scheduled panel. By Sunday morning, organizers had expanded that plan again, saying he was expected at 11:30 a.m. for both photo ops and a panel session.
But by that afternoon, both were off. A Facebook post read: “Christopher Lambert is unable to come today. He sends his regrets.”
A separate organizer statement added: “Unfortunately, this time he will not be able to attend the comic con.”
No explanation accompanied either post, and fans responded in the comments with well wishes, many saying Lambert’s health should come first.

Lambert is best known for playing Connor MacLeod in Highlander, the 1986 film centered on an immortal Scottish warrior. He also starred as Tarzan in 1984’s Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, and as Lord Raiden in 1995’s Mortal Kombat.
He remains active on the touring convention circuit, drawing fans willing to line up for photographs and autographs decades after the films first reached audiences.
Convention appearances can also make for demanding days. Travel, disrupted sleep, long signing sessions in warm and crowded rooms, and delayed meals can all become part of the schedule.
Lambert’s representative cited little food and poor sleep, while organizers cited overheating and dehydration. The public record does not establish which factor was primary.
A Pattern in the Schedule, and What Comes Next
Well, the Steel City Con episode was not the first time a health-related setback had forced Lambert to withdraw from a scheduled fan event.
In March 2025, Lambert fell at a hotel, injured his back, and withdrew from Sweden’s SciFiWorld festival. That incident came roughly 17 months before his August 2026 collapse.
Nothing in the reporting connects the two events medically or causally, and the circumstances were different: a back injury caused by a fall in one case, and a reported blood sugar drop alongside heat and dehydration in the other.
Lambert still had appearances planned for later in August 2026, including Fan Expo Chicago and Mad Monster Expo in North Carolina. Whether those appearances would go ahead had not been addressed. He had also not issued a public statement about what happened at Steel City Con, and no further update on his condition had been reported as of the most recent coverage.
