And for those of you who might not be aware, Monash University is the birthplace of and the most respected primary source for information about the low FODMAP diet. This course is like having the researchers who developed the diet hold your hand every step of the way.

- Do you already follow the low FODMAP diet?
- You think the low FODMAP diet is too complicated.
- You aren’t sure if the diet is meant for you.
- Perhaps you have tried the diet, but gave up?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, then the Monash University Low FODMAP Patient Course is for you. Watch the preview below.
Why I Took The Patient’s Course
I have completed the Monash University Dietitian’s Course, but that course is pricier, much more in-depth and geared towards medical professionals. Having completed that course it was not necessary for me to take the Patient’s Course, except that I wanted to be able to report on it and have a strong understanding of what Monash was offering the public.
Being full-time FODMAP educators it is important for us to know what is out there in terms of education for those interested in and/or following the diet.
Hands down, this Patient’s Course is the most reputable and thorough course available for those following the diet. Period.
How the Monash University Low FODMAP Patient Course Works
There are 5 modules designed to cover all the essential topics as determined by those who developed the diet, including:
- The importance of an accurate IBS diagnosis.
- What FODMAPs are.
- Where FODMAPs are found.
- How to implement the 3 steps of the diet.
- Understanding whether your IBS symptoms are FODMAP related.
- What to do if your IBS symptoms do not improve on a low FODMAP diet.
- Overview of additional therapies to help manage IBS symptoms.
The course is made up of interactive elements including videos, infographics, question & answer flip-card mini quizzes, sorting activities and interactive charts.
The consistent and continuous reading, reviewing and testing of the content helps the patient (YOU!) retain the necessary information – plus, it’s kind of fun!
The course is taken online and can be accessed by anyone in the world. Once you register you have 12 months to complete the course, all in the comfort of your own home. We recommend you do it all at once, though. I think you will retain the information better if you complete it within the same month that you begin.
And, there is even a FREE PREVIEW of Module 1 that you can access for a two-week period. I promise you, if you take the free tour you will see just how beneficial this course is.
If you are familiar with our approach here at FODMAP Everyday®, you already know that we use Monash University resources for our recipe development as well as a touchstone for all of our science-based articles.
Monash researchers are leaders in the FODMAP field and can be counted on to be accurate and at the forefront of the diet, with their continuing up-to-date research. Never before has there been a product geared towards the layperson at home who is working with the diet.
If you are a RD or medical professional, we highly recommend the Monash University Low FODMAP Dietitian’s Course.
If you are following the diet – at any stage – or thinking of beginning the diet, then this Patient Course is the most important educational tool available to you in addition to the Monash app.

My daughter have been on the low FODMAP diet for at least 6 months now, and it has been a gret success without a dietiician and, more importantly, are not spending as mluch time in the bathfoom.Thank you for your interest and help with this wonderful program.. In addition to IBS, I have a large number of health issues, including mobility ones. I love cooking but just can’t do much anymore. Large numbers of ingredients, for instance, that require much moving around in the kitchen are julst out of the question. I am wondering if these materials help us to chose more quickly made recipes s recipes are a great part of the program. Please advise and thank you again.

Hi Jo Ann, I don’t know if you meant to address Monash or us, but I can answer the question. The Patient Program does not have any specific focus on quick recipes. Our Recipe Filter allows you to filter for Quick (30 min or less) and Easy (15 min prep or less); that might helpful to you. That said, the course is very well done.
