When she said she felt they could not say no to such a massive opportunity, her father quickly corrected her by stating that he and her mother absolutely could say no.
Duffy expressed his deep fear that institutions like Harvard have professionalized the ability to take good young girls and completely corrupt their minds. He emphasized that while he wants his children to be exposed to many different viewpoints, he does not want them fed only one specific ideology that runs completely counter to the way they were raised.

However, Paloma offered a very thoughtful counterargument to her parents. She pointed out that she had already attended an extremely conservative high school and was raised within an extremely conservative family. She argued that stepping into a liberal setting for her college years would actually provide her with a much more well-rounded education.
In response, her father warned that young people from conservative backgrounds often get perverted and contorted when they enter liberal academic spaces.
