While most of you are ogling the Met Gala fashions, caterers were running around getting the food ready. Food is served, which is actually kind of funny when you come to think of it, because after a big meal how many of those stars are still going to fit into those fancy outfits? What if Jared Leto gets tomato sauce on his fur, or Rhianna drops an appetizer into the roses on her dress? And believe it or not, Chick-fil-A played a part.
This past Monday night, May 1st, 2023, the Met Gala made its return, showcasing the usual extravagant and eccentric fashion choices from some of the most notable figures in the industry. The event celebrated the new exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, and attendees were seen in a variety of unique outfits ranging from feline-inspired ensembles (honoring Lagerfeld’s beloved pet, Choupette) to feathered gowns with sparkling accents.
The annual event is hosted by Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, and is renowned for its opulent glamour and iconic red carpet.
This year we also had Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, and Dua Lipa co-chairing.
Despite the high cost of attending, with individual tickets reportedly costing $30,000 and full tables starting at $275,000, little is known about what happens once the stars move beyond the red carpet.
As reported by Vogue, the Met Gala’s menu for this year was put together by Olivier Cheng, a renowned caterer who drew inspiration from a notable event hosted by Karl Lagerfeld – the wedding reception of Paloma Picasso (many bridal gowns made appearances).
The menu was both tasteful and sophisticated, offering dishes such as chilled pea soup (can you imagine how that might look spilled on one of those gowns?), King salmon with pickled strawberries, and an assortment of petit fours. In honor of Lagerfeld’s preference, there was an unlimited supply of Diet Coke, one of the fashion icon’s favorite beverages.
Despite any controversial food choices, this year’s Met Gala undoubtedly showcased some of the most noteworthy fashion moments in the event’s history.
And how did Chick-fil-A make an appearance? According to Pusha T on Instagram, Teyana Taylor, the American rapper, actor and dancer, brought the fried chicken and fries to the event. Pusha T claimed, “Teyana Taylor is embarrassing me.” All we can say, is sit us at her table!
Lily James wearing Tamara Ralph – a black leather gown with fitted bustier bodice, and a smoky eye.
Recent Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan looking sharp with fingerless gloves as an homage to Lagerfeld’s signature accessory. Note the ring. Jewelry for men is now seen more often than not.
Gigi Hadid wearing Givenchy Haute Couture – a lingerie inspired look of sheer black, including a train, and pearl jewels.
A deeply tanned Amber Valletta, rocking a choppy pixie haircut, in a cut-out white dress with train, and barely-there sandals.
Olivia Wilde wearing Chloe departs The Mark Hotel for The 2023 Met Gala.
Tems wearing Robert Wun, a towering feathered headpiece and carrying a sculptural handbag.
Donatella Versace and Anne Hathaway both in body baring and figure hugging dresses, striking a pose.
Mary J. Blige wearing custom Burberry with matching thigh-high boots.
Paris Hilton wearing Marc Jacobs, a Chanel-esque camellia at her neck and sky-high platform shoes.
Jodie Comer, fresh off of her Tony nomination for her debut performance on Broadway in Prima Facie, wearing a Burberry one-shoulder gown in black, blue and white.
