Using CBD Hemp Oil in Low FODMAP Recipes

If you are not familiar with the use of CBD hemp oil for treating IBS, please first refer to our article, CBD Oil for Treating IBS: Does It Work? It was written by our Success Team RDN Jody Garlick, who also happens to have professional training and certification in the use of CBD hemp oil. All the better to help all of us as we learn about using CBD hemp oil in low FODMAP recipes.

CBD, by the way, stands for cannabidiol and is a NON-psychoactive compound found in hemp and marijuana.

CBD Hemp Oil vs. CBD Products Derived from Marijuana

To immediately clear up any confusion we are talking about CBD hemp oil products, which are derived from industrial hemp plants. CBD hemp oil is non-psychoactive, meaning it will not get you high.

In the U.S. hemp oil products are readily available without a prescription and are legal. You can even order these products on Amazon! For more recommended options see below.

Hemp sourced oil is rich in CBD and contains either only trace amounts (up to .03%) of THC or no THC content whatsoever. (THC contains psychoactive properties).

Again, what this means is that the type of CBD hemp oil we are using in our CBD low FODMAP recipes will NOT get you high, as they do not contain THC.

What CBD hemp oils do have is the potential of providing pain relief, the ability to calm inflammation and provide a relaxed feeling, easing anxiety, among other benefits.

Let’s Cook with CBD!

We decided to dabble in CBD recipes and decided to start with CBD Salted Caramel Sauce, a CBD Hot Fudge Sauce and CBD Hemp Oil Pizza recipes.

There are three main things to keep in mind when cooking with CBD hemp oil:

1. Potency Varies – Companies create and present their products in different ways. One company lists the dosage in milligrams, the next one in milliliters and yet another one might just list a recommended number of drops from the dropper bottle to gauge dosage. The product itself might be based in oil (hemp oil, coconut oil or some other oil), glycerin or some other carrier. This lack of standardization means you – and we as recipe developers – are not able to really compare like products with like products. Therefore, use the recipes as a starting point for experimentation.

2. Everyone’s Reactions Vary – Just as with any other supplement or drug, one person’s reaction and experience can be very different from another’s. Again, do your research, read our main article on using CBD oil for gastrointestinal relief for further information and be prudent.

3. Do Not Heat Over 180°F/82°C – Some CBD hemp oil companies caution that the product should not be heated over 180°F/82°C, therefore our recipes take this into account. The ingredients might be denatured if over-heated.

Let the relaxation begin!

Where to Buy Quality CBD Oil If You and Your Health Care Provider Have Determined It’s Worth A Try

There are an increasing number of options around where to buy CBD. First, make sure it is legal to purchase CBD (Hemp or Cannibidoil) in your country. Check online for yourself first and be sure you are following the most up to date guidelines you can find.

We have chosen these Hemp CBD sellers based on the following: the product is full spectrum and made from the whole plant, they can provide third party test results of potency and prove they are clean from chemicals/pesticides,  they are organically grown and preferably non-GMO.

We are also affiliates to these sellers – meaning we make a small amount of money if you purchase some product using our link. The price to you is the same. See our full disclosure here.
