Tea, For The Win

Among the surveyed U.S. adults, 68% of non-caffeine drinkers acknowledge its potential impact on their sleep, while 40% of caffeine consumers agree. Coffee is the preferred choice for 51% of respondents, followed by soda (28%), tea (10%), and energy drinks (7%). Daily Caffeine Consumption is Ritualistic
Caffeine consumption is a common daily ritual, with 94% of Americans indulging in it, primarily through coffee. Taste preference and the energy boost are the primary reasons for caffeine’s popularity, but it often interferes with quality sleep.
Who Is Drinking All The Caffeine?
Lifestyle and age play significant roles, with exhausted parents and those with demanding work schedules relying heavily on caffeine.
When Are You Drinking Caffeine?
The timing of caffeine intake matters. Caffeine has a half-life ranging from 3 to 7 hours, affecting sleep quality. Moderation in quantity and timing is key to avoiding sleep disturbances. Some individuals, like Steve Depew, have adapted by consuming half-caffeinated coffee in the morning to maintain alertness without sacrificing sleep.
There Is No Doubt That Caffeine Affects Sleep
Of the surveyed individuals, 68% of non-caffeine drinkers believe it affects their sleep, compared to 40% of caffeine consumers. However, sleep problems are more prevalent among caffeine drinkers, with 35% experiencing daytime sleepiness and 31% reporting insomnia, compared to 27% and 22% in non-drinkers.
Survey Says Drink Tea!
Choosing caffeine wisely and monitoring its effects on your body can help you get a good night’s sleep. Tea, in particular, offers better sleep outcomes, with 75% achieving seven or more hours, in contrast to 58% of coffee drinkers. Reducing or eliminating caffeine intake close to bedtime is recommended, as caffeine’s impact on sleep can extend hours after consumption.
